Earlier Report Observations

After reaching 6 058 tons in 2018, production of beef, sheep, and goat fats in Cameroon fell to 4 707 tons in 2019 before beginning a steady recovery. The market grew to 4 809 tons in 2020 and continued its upward trajectory through the following years.

Growth accelerated from 2021 onward, primarily driven by the PRODEL project. Funded by the World Bank, PRODEL reduced calf mortality from 26.9% to 9.1% through direct investments in animal health, vaccination parks, water points, and pasture rehabilitation, which boosted livestock productivity and fat output.

The expansion was further supported in 2022 by the launch of a new CFA 65 billion project aimed at developing pork, beef, and fish value chains, including cattle semen production and artificial insemination training. These sustained interventions helped raise production to 5 740 tons by 2023.
