Earlier Report Observations

The volume of Nigeria's cocoa powder and cake market contracted substantially from 9 813 t in 2018 to 4 213 t in 2023, a decline of over 50% across the six-year period.

Market volume showed considerable fluctuation, with a sharp recovery to 10 501 t in 2020 interrupting the downward trend. However, from 2021 onward, the market entered a phase of consistent contraction, with the most severe drop occurring in 2023.

Changes in domestic production and export volumes were key drivers behind these swings, as increased shipments abroad in the latter years reduced the quantity available for local consumption.
