The cocoa-free sugar confectionery market in Zimbabwe showed considerable movement in volume between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 34 693 tons in 2018, the market contracted over the next two years, falling to 25 996 tons by 2020.

A pronounced recovery began in 2021, with market volume growing by 21% to reach 31 604 tons. This was followed by a period of stabilization in 2022 and a further 12% expansion in 2023, lifting the total market volume to 35 500 tons, which exceeded the initial 2018 level.

Measured in value, the market's growth was more pronounced, especially in the final year. The market value rose from 48.7 million US dollars in 2018 to 61.8 million US dollars in 2023, a increase that outpaces the growth in tonnage.

Zimbabwe's cocoa-free sugar confectionery production declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 26 560 tonnes, marking a significant year-on-year decrease of 16.8%. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 22.7%, with an average annual decline of 8.2%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 35 672 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 3.8%.

Zimbabwe's cocoa-free sugar confectionery production value declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, output was valued at 32 593 thousand US dollars, showing a notable decrease of 21.3% compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, production value dropped by 49.6%, with an average annual decline of 20.4%.

In 2020, Zimbabwe exported 1 150 tonnes of cocoa-free sugar confectionery, representing a 27.8% decrease from 2019. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 1 593 tonnes, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 83.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, the three largest markets for Zimbabwe's cocoa-free sugar confectionery exports were South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia. Together, these countries accounted for 91.0% of total export volumes.

After two years of growth, Zimbabwe's cocoa-free sugar confectionery export value declined. In 2020, exports amounted to 1 411 thousand US dollars, representing a steep 31.7% decrease from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, export value increased by 4.1%, equating to an average annual growth rate of 1.3%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 2 066 thousand US dollars, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 34.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia remained the leading destinations for Zimbabwe's cocoa-free sugar confectionery exports by value.
