From 2018 to 2023, the domestic market volume for cocoa beans in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines declined from 212.4 t to 169.6 t. This contraction occurred despite a gradual increase in local production from 223.4 t to 229.7 t, as a significant rise in exports—from 11 t to 60.1 t—redirected more beans abroad.

In value terms, the market peaked at 1.8 million USD in 2021 before falling to 1.5 million USD in 2023. Export earnings surged from 71 000 USD to 524 000 USD over the period, reflecting higher global cocoa prices that boosted the value of shipped beans even as domestic volume shrank.

By 2024, global factors sharply influenced the trade. A severe drop in West African production due to unfavorable weather and disease, compounded by the El Niño phenomenon, pushed world cocoa prices to record highs. This environment likely contributed to the sharp drop in Saint Vincent's exports to 2.1 t in 2024, as market conditions altered international flows.
