Ethiopian citrus fruit production and market volume grew slightly in 2019, reaching 193 тыс. т and 191 тыс. т respectively, a period supported by notable growth in global citrus consumption. However, the market contracted sharply over the next two years, with production falling to 127 тыс. т and market volume to 125 тыс. т by 2021.

A partial recovery occurred in 2022, as production increased to 155 тыс. т and market volume to 154 тыс. т, but volumes dipped again in 2023 to 143 тыс. т and 142 тыс. т respectively. This later decline coincided with a global peak in citrus consumption followed by a modest downturn in demand.

In value terms, the market declined from $59.7 million in 2018 to $35.3 million in 2021, before recovering to $42.2 million in 2023, indicating shifting price levels alongside the physical volume changes.
