Georgia's citrus fruit market volume showed considerable volatility from 2018 to 2023. After starting at 116.9 thousand tonnes in 2018, it dipped to 111.7 thousand tonnes in 2019 before contracting sharply to 91.1 thousand tonnes in 2020. A recovery phase followed, with the market reaching 94.3 thousand tonnes in 2021, 104.3 thousand tonnes in 2022, and finally 117.5 thousand tonnes in 2023, exceeding the initial level.

The market value, measured in thousand US dollars, mirrored this pattern with greater intensity. It declined from 57 841 thousand in 2018 to 45 077 thousand in 2020, then grew steadily to 74 477 thousand by 2023. This stronger value growth suggests rising average prices or a shift in the product mix within the citrus category over the period.

Movements in domestic production were a primary driver of changes in market volume. Production fell to 113.6 thousand tonnes in 2020, coinciding with the market's lowest point, and then surged to 143.4 thousand tonnes in 2023, providing the foundation for the market's expansion. Concurrently, export volumes remained high, peaking at 58.0 thousand tonnes in 2021, which tempered domestic availability that year.

In 2020, the country produced 113 600 tons of citrus fruit, which represents an 11.3% decrease compared to the previous year.
