The chestnut market in Greece experienced significant volume fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After starting at 31 724 t in 2018, the market contracted sharply the following year. It then recovered in 2020, dipped again in 2021, and reached a period high of over 33 500 t in 2022.

Market volume stabilized in 2023 at approximately 33 100 t, concluding the observed period close to its starting level after a cycle of volatility and recovery.

Following a two-year decline, Greece's chestnut exports rebounded in 2020. The country exported 4 398 tonnes of chestnuts that year, marking a 16.8% increase from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 6.6%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 2.2%. The lowest export volume was in 2019 at 3 767 tonnes, with the largest decline that year at 5.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Italy, Albania, and Bulgaria emerged as the primary markets for Greece's chestnut exports in volume terms. Italy accounted for 65.2% of exports, while Albania and Bulgaria each represented 6.1%. Together, these three countries made up 77.5% of total export flows.
