Earlier Report Observations

The chemical wood pulp market in CIS countries saw a dip in 2019 followed by growth in 2020 and 2021. International sanctions and logistical constraints limited trade in 2019, while the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains but also boosted demand for eco-friendly wood pulp. This demand, along with investments in production modernization, supported market expansion into 2021.

From 2022, strengthened state regulation of exports, including quotas, and ongoing sanctions reduced import and export volumes. Combined with lower production, this led to a contraction in market size to 4 404 thousand tons in 2022 and 4 181 thousand tons in 2023. In 2024, imports rose to 134 thousand tons and exports fell to 1 912 thousand tons, amid factors like tighter environmental norms and government measures affecting wood product exports.
