The Greek cheese and curd market is characterized by high per capita consumption, with households historically spending around €22 monthly on cheese. Starting at 518.4 тыс. т in 2018, market volume contracted to 495.2 тыс. т in 2019 before recovering to 507.2 тыс. т in 2020 and further growing to 523.6 тыс. т in 2021.

Accelerated growth followed from 2022 onward, driven by the revival of forgotten cheese categories such as goat and buffalo milk varieties, which expanded domestic product offerings. This was complemented by a surge in export demand, notably a 130.7% increase in the value of feta shipments to Canada in 2023. As a result, market volume reached 538.6 тыс. т in 2022 and jumped to 594.1 тыс. т in 2023, while production rose consistently to 527.2 тыс. т.
