In 2018, the cereal germ market in Kazakhstan reached 153 thousand tons, supported by a rise in deep grain processing with a 33.8% share. By 2019, the volume fell to 123 thousand tons against a backdrop of shrinking grain sown areas, which had been noted in preceding years.

Recovery to 130 thousand tons occurred in 2020 as the grain processing share increased to 38%. However, the market dropped to 115 thousand tons in 2021 due to the decade's lowest grain harvest of 16.6 million tons and disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic.

A record grain harvest in 2022 lifted the market volume to 120 thousand tons, and growth continued to 123 thousand tons in 2023 with sustained high grain production and active investment in modernizing agricultural facilities. State regulation through interventions and new grain accounting rules remained a key market feature throughout the period.
