Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh cauliflowers and broccoli in Sub-Saharan Africa showed considerable variation in volume between 2018 and 2023. After initial readings near 19 000 т, the market contracted before entering a phase of expansion, ultimately reaching a high of 25 545 т in 2022. This growth period was followed by a sharp contraction to 14 691 т in 2023, aligning with a concurrent decline in domestic production levels over the six-year span.

Recent market conditions have been shaped by notable price movements and trade patterns. In South Africa, a significant rise in fresh broccoli export prices during 2023 indicated robust external demand, while domestic wholesale prices experienced ongoing volatility. Conversely, Nigeria's average export prices for these vegetables fell in 2024. These price dynamics occurred against a backdrop of global supply chain disruptions, which influenced trade flows and pricing across the region.
