Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2020, castor seed production in Cabo Verde increased gradually from 70 550 kg to 71 050 kg. This growth was underpinned by state-led initiatives, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment's program to supply farmers with seeds and other production inputs in 2018, as well as efforts to reduce losses across the agricultural value chain in 2019.
Production continued its slow upward trend, reaching 71 390 kg in both 2021 and 2022, before a slight rise to 71 640 kg in 2023. The launch of the local brand Natuxok in 2022, which uses typical Cabo Verdean seeds in chocolate production, added value to local seeds and demonstrated new domestic demand. Additionally, the import of drought-resistant strawberry plants in 2021 reflects broader investments in climate-adaptive agriculture.
In 2024, authorities emphasized agriculture's role as a driver of sustainable development, and labor market data showed significant improvements in employment, factors that contribute to the sector's broader context.
