Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh carrots and turnips in Israel grew to 167 thousand tons in 2019, but then entered a sustained downturn. Over the next three years, the market volume contracted significantly, reaching 91.4 thousand tons in 2022.

This decline was accompanied by a fall in domestic production, which dropped from 252.8 thousand tons in 2019 to 162.6 thousand tons in 2022. A temporary surge in imports during 2022, which reached 10.9 thousand tons, provided some offset but could not reverse the overall market shrinkage.

In 2023, the market stabilized and recorded a modest increase to 94.5 thousand tons. Production remained around 160 thousand tons, while exports decreased from their 2022 peak, contributing to the slight expansion of domestic availability.
