Earlier Report Observations
The market for fresh capsicum and pimenta fruits in Qatar grew consistently from 2018 to 2020, with total volume increasing from 17 675 t to 19 328 t. This expansion coincided with a rapid rise in domestic production, which more than doubled over these three years, while import levels remained stable.
After a moderate decline to 18 174 t in 2021, the market rebounded strongly the following year, reaching a peak of 21 038 t in 2022. This recovery was fueled by a notable increase in imports, which offset a temporary stabilization in local output.
The market contracted sharply in 2023, with volume falling to 12 105 t. This drop was driven almost entirely by a severe reduction in imports, which fell by more than half compared to 2022, even as domestic production continued to grow.
