The market for fresh or chilled capsicum and pimenta fruits in Namibia expanded from 1 221.5 t in 2018 to a peak of 1 359.9 t in 2019, before a slight moderation to 1 319.4 t in 2020. This early period was supported by robust import volumes, which reached 380.1 t in 2019.

A major shift occurred in 2021, when the market volume contracted sharply by over 40% to 783.4 t. This drastic reduction was driven by a combination of a significant drop in imports to 94.5 t and the sudden emergence of substantial exports, which reached 293.4 t that year, redirecting a large portion of domestic production abroad.

Following the 2021 contraction, the market entered a recovery phase, growing to 883.5 t in 2022 and further to 1 004.1 t in 2023. This rebound took place alongside a stabilization of domestic production near 990 t and a continued decline in import reliance.
