Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for fresh or chilled capsicum and pimenta fruits in Guinea showed consistent growth from 301.1 thousand tons in 2018 to 367.2 thousand tons in 2023. This expansion was initially supported by the 2018 launch of the AgriFARM project, which provided resources to 78 000 family farms across 15 prefectures to improve climate resilience and market access. Additional financing agreements in 2019 further strengthened agricultural development, contributing to rising production.

Growth continued through the period, aided by government measures to stabilize the market. In 2022, a mid-term review of AgriFARM confirmed actions to enhance the competitiveness of the agricultural value chain, including pepper crops. That same year, protocols signed with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts of Guinea aimed to secure the supply of essential goods and control prices, indirectly supporting fresh produce consumption. The maintenance of tax and customs exemptions on certain food items in 2023 helped maintain price stability for consumers.

Agricultural sector reforms, including a reported 4.8% growth in 2023, fostered investment and value addition. In 2024, the official launch of a price bulletin and continued support for agricultural research at the Guinean Institute of Agronomic Research aimed to improve techniques and varieties. However, a fuel depot explosion in Conakry and moderate inflation presented logistical and cost challenges for distribution.
