The market for fresh capsicum and pimenta fruits in Bosnia and Herzegovina expanded in 2019, reaching 57 630 tonnes, but then declined over the next three years to a low of 40 452 tonnes in 2022. A partial recovery brought the market volume to 42 942 tonnes in 2023.

Domestic production followed a similar pattern, rising to 44 707 tonnes in 2020 before falling sharply to 30 652 tonnes in 2022 and recovering slightly to 33 196 tonnes in 2023. Imports, which had increased to 13 946 tonnes in 2019, trended downward to 10 715 tonnes in 2022 before stabilizing around 11 000 tonnes.

In value terms, the market contracted from 54.2 million USD in 2019 to 32.3 million USD in 2022, then rebounded strongly to 43.2 million USD in 2023, indicating a significant increase in average market prices during the recovery year.

The peak value was recorded in 2019 at 47 454 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest annual increase of 6.9%. The most significant annual decline occurred in 2020 at 17.9%.
