Production of capsicum and pimenta fruits in ECOWAS has grown for the third year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 1,758 thousand tons, marking a 6.4% increase from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, the main markets for ECOWAS exports in volume terms were Belarus, accounting for 37.8% of exports, the United Kingdom with 8.3%, and Mauritania at 2.1%. Together, these three countries made up 48.1% of total export flows.

Imports of capsicum and pimenta fruits into ECOWAS increased after two years of decline. In 2020, imports totaled 852 tons, a 13.3% rise from the year before. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 64.8%, with an average annual decline of 29.4%. The minimum volume was recorded in 2019 at 752 tons, and the most significant drop happened in 2018, at 61.6%.
