Earlier Report Observations

The Croatian market for candles and tapers shifted between 2018 and 2024, with total physical consumption falling from 8 095 t to 6 592 t. Conversely, the market's monetary value rose consistently from $24.0 million to $34.4 million. This divergence points to a market where rising unit prices or a shift toward more valuable products offset the decline in volume.

The drop in volume was led by a sharp contraction in domestic production, which more than halved from 5 973 t to 3 013 t. Imports grew to fill the gap, increasing from 3 189 t to 4 622 t and securing a larger share of supply. Export volumes varied but ended the period near their starting point.

The steady expansion in market value was underpinned by a near-doubling of import value from $7.96 million to $17.06 million. Despite lower output tonnage, the value of domestic production also increased, contributing to a significant rise in the average price per tonne across the market.
