The market for bread, pastry, cakes, biscuits and bakers’ wares in Pakistan contracted substantially from 2018 to 2023, with volume falling by more than 50% from 13 642 tonnes to 6 615 tonnes. The decline was particularly steep between 2019 and 2020, when the market size dropped by over 2 000 tonnes.

A temporary reversal occurred in 2021, with market volume recovering by 27% to 10 452 tonnes. However, this expansion was short-lived, as volume decreased again to 9 509 tonnes in 2022 and then fell sharply to 6 615 tonnes in 2023, marking the lowest point in the period.

In 2020, the output value of bread, pastry, cakes, biscuits, and bakers' wares in Pakistan was 49 628 thousand US dollars, reflecting a modest decline of 7.8% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value decreased by 11%, with a compound annual growth rate of -3.8%. The highest increase occurred in 2019, at 1.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Pakistan's exports of bread, pastry, cakes, biscuits, and bakers' wares in kind were distributed across numerous countries. Afghanistan accounted for 25.9% of these exports, the United States for 15.0%, and Saudi Arabia for 8.5%, together making up 49.4% of the total flows.

In 2020, export volume reached 40 924 thousand US dollars, up 10.5% from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 33%, corresponding to an annualized growth rate of 10.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and Germany were the main suppliers of bread, pastry, cakes, biscuits, and bakers' wares to Pakistan in kind. The UAE contributed 25.1% of imports, Malaysia 16.1%, and Germany 9.1%, together representing 50.3% of total imports.
