From 2018 to 2020, imports of brake fluids and antifreezes into Bosnia and Herzegovina declined from 3 120 t to 2 740 t, while exports more than doubled from 225 t to 467 t, indicating a shift in trade balances. Domestic production data became available from 2021, showing output of 4 946 t that year, contributing to a market volume of 7 283 t.

The market volume edged down slightly to 7 124 t in 2022, but its value rose to $9.3 million. This was influenced by a global increase in the vehicle population, which supported demand, and volatile crude oil prices that raised manufacturing costs for ethylene glycol-based products. Concurrently, the introduction of new high-performance brake fluid formulations, such as polyglycol and silicone-based fluids from major brands, shifted product portfolios toward higher-value segments.

Production fell sharply to 3 697 t in 2023, pulling market volume down to 6 189 t. Both volume and value partially recovered in 2024, reaching 6 394 t and $9.1 million respectively. Trade flows continued to expand, with imports reaching 3 278 t and exports 692 t in 2025.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's exports of brake fluids and antifreezes have grown for the third year in a row. In 2021, the country exported 538 tons, marking a 15.1% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2018 to 2021, exports surged by 139.4%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 33.8%.

From 2018 to 2021, the main destinations for Bosnia and Herzegovina's brake fluids and antifreezes exports by volume were Serbia, Montenegro, and Croatia. Serbia accounted for 62.7% of exports, Montenegro for 11.4%, and Croatia for 8.6%. Together, these three countries made up 82.7% of total exports in kind.

Exports of brake fluids and antifreezes from Bosnia and Herzegovina have risen for the third consecutive year. In 2021, export value reached 657 thousand US dollars, a 34.2% jump from 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, exports grew by 92.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of 24.3%.

Between 2018 and 2021, Serbia, Montenegro, and Croatia were the leading buyers of brake fluids and antifreezes from Bosnia and Herzegovina in value terms. After two years of decline, imports of brake fluids and antifreezes into Bosnia and Herzegovina rebounded in 2021. Import volume totaled 2 875 tons, up 4.9% from the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, imports fell by 7.9%, with an average annual decline of 2.7%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2020 at 2 740 tons, which also saw the sharpest drop of 11.7%.

From 2018 to 2021, Serbia, Germany, and Slovenia were the top sources for Bosnia and Herzegovina's imports of brake fluids and antifreezes by volume. Serbia supplied 20.8% of imports, Germany 15.6%, and Slovenia 15.5%. Together, these three countries accounted for 51.8% of total import volume.
