Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2022, production of beef, sheep, and goat fat in Myanmar increased consistently, rising from 4,182 t to 4,572 t. This growth was initially driven by the launch of the government's Agriculture Development Strategy and Investment Plan in 2018, which aimed to enhance livestock sector productivity. Major players like Myanmar CP Livestock Co., Ltd. remained active, supporting output. The planning and subsequent implementation of a Unit Plan to boost meat and dairy production expanded cattle breeding capacity. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the government's emphasis on maintaining sufficient livestock production helped sustain growth, while the animal feed market expansion in 2021 provided necessary inputs. In 2022, increased export applications for food processing to China indicated growing external demand, further encouraging production.
In 2023, production stabilized at 4,548 t, with a marginal decrease from the previous year. This stabilization coincided with a decline in Myanmar's animal feed production and overseas shipments for the second consecutive year, which likely constrained feed availability for livestock. Ongoing regulatory efforts to improve product quality and safety, including Good Animal Husbandry Practices, helped maintain market stability.
