In 2019, production reached its peak at 1,379 thousand tons, marking a significant increase of 20.5% from the previous year. However, by 2020, production had fallen sharply to 827 thousand tons, representing a 40.0% decrease compared to 2019. Barytes exports from the MENA region expanded for two years before reversing course. In 2019, exports reached their highest level at 1,012 thousand tons, with a 9.0% increase from the previous year. However, by 2020, exports had plummeted to 397 thousand tons, a sharp decline of 60.8% compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, the geographical distribution of barytes exports from MENA was highly diversified. By 2020, however, export revenues had fallen to 46.2 million US dollars, a drop of 62.6% compared to 2019.
