This expansion was driven by increased consumer demand for heat-sensitive fresh vegetables and a shift toward online shopping for perishable goods, which spurred investments in advanced cold-chain logistics and specialized distribution solutions.

After a sharp contraction to 32 253 tonnes in 2020, the market recovered steadily, reaching 49 920 tonnes by 2023. Domestic production remained relatively stable between 17 761 and 20 814 tonnes during this period, while imports grew substantially to meet rising consumption, exceeding 29 500 tonnes in 2023.

Imports moderated slightly in 2024 to 27 022 tonnes. Government directives to establish a major food and vegetable market in Dubai and the strong growth of the UAE's food and beverage sector, supported by tourism and economic activity, continued to shape the market environment for fresh produce.
