Earlier Report Observations

From 2018, the expansion of global cable leader LAPP through acquisitions and new subsidiaries strengthened its footprint in Romania, while the exit of hemp fiber producer HempFlax reduced local raw material supply. Market volume grew to 1 583 t in 2019, supported by LAPP's digitalization of product solutions that improved customer access. However, a contraction to 1 411 t followed in 2020, coinciding with consolidation in the construction materials sector where ROCA Industry's acquisition of Sarcom may have temporarily dampened demand for industrial cords and ropes.

Recovery took hold in 2021 as the market reached 1 802 t, fueled by a rising number of active firms in logistics and trade which increased demand for packaging and fastening materials. Companies adapting to legislative changes also refreshed their product offerings. Growth continued to 1 971 t in 2022 despite the closure of the Leoni plant, a key automotive cable manufacturer, as expanded activity from other players and intensified sales digitalization offset the loss.

After the 2022 peak, the market volume in physical terms retreated to 1 759 t by 2024, indicating a post‑growth correction. In value terms, the market followed a similar pattern, rising to $14.0 million in 2022, then contracting to $12.8 million in 2023 before a partial recovery to $13.4 million in 2024.
