Earlier Report Observations

Almond market volume in the Americas rose from 1 778 thousand tons in 2018 to a peak of 2 417 thousand tons in 2020. This growth was driven by a rapid 6.3% expansion of harvested almond area, which increased production, and by rising consumer demand for nutrient-rich foods. The market was further boosted by the widespread adoption of almond milk in the plant-based beverage sector and technological advances in precision irrigation that improved orchard efficiency.

After the peak, market volume contracted to 2 273 thousand tons in 2021 and 1 938 thousand tons in 2022. During this period, new product segments like almond flour and plant-based milk continued to expand, supported by changes in market access regulations that facilitated the entry of new players. In 2023, adverse weather conditions in several American regions reduced almond output, contributing to a further decline in market volume to 1 816 thousand tons, despite sustained consumer interest in organic and sustainably labeled products.

In 2024, new labeling and traceability regulations for almond products were implemented, aligning with international standards. Significant investments were made in domestic processing facilities to strengthen the supply chain, while the sustained adoption of almond milk and derived products kept demand underpinned by health and plant-based diet trends.
