This was underpinned by COIM Group's expansion of alkyd and acrylic resin production capacity in the Netherlands following its acquisition of Synres, increasing availability for protective and industrial coatings. Concurrently, Groupe Berkem's launch of a 100% bio-based alkyd resin line reinforced the trend towards eco-friendly products. Growth continued to 34 940 t in 2023, fueled by ongoing innovation in bio-based and water-based resins and tightening environmental standards. In 2024, the market reached 35 977 t, aided by ASK Chemicals' introduction of NECOWEL alkyd resins with enhanced environmental profiles and by rising demand from the electric vehicle sector for corrosion protection coatings and from the construction industry.

Throughout the period, VOC emission regulations remained a key driver, steering the market towards water-based and low-VOC alkyd resins, while both consumers and industries increasingly favored sustainable coating solutions.
