The Spanish alcoholic beer market reached 3 865 M l in 2018, supported by record tourism numbers and growing export activity. Volume continued to rise in 2019, but then fell to 3 518 M l in 2020.

A recovery began in 2021, and the market grew to 4 115 M l in 2022, driven by the revival of the hospitality sector, the return of tourists, and a notable 13% increase in non-alcoholic beer consumption.

Growth continued through 2023 and 2024, with the market volume reaching 4 294 M l. This period saw a shift towards home consumption, while the market structure diversified with the rise of craft and non-alcoholic beers, alongside stronger local producers.

After two years of growth, Spain's alcoholic beer production value declined. In 2019, output reached its peak at 4 337 million US dollars, but by 2020 it had fallen to 3 737 million US dollars, representing a 13.8% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value dropped by 4.1%, with an average annual decline of 1.4%. The strongest growth occurred in 2018, when production increased by 10.0%.

Following two years of expansion, Spain's alcoholic beer production volume decreased. In 2019, production hit its highest level at 3 858 million liters, but in 2020 it dropped to 3 318 million liters, marking a 14.0% decline from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production volume fell by 8.4%, with an average annual decrease of 2.9%. The most significant increase was recorded in 2019, when production grew by 6.0%.

Spain's alcoholic beer exports have grown for three consecutive years. In 2020, exports reached 315.8 million liters, showing a solid 16.7% increase compared to 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports rose by 37.5%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 11.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Portugal, China, and the United Kingdom were the leading destinations for Spain's alcoholic beer exports by volume. Portugal accounted for 24.6% of exports, China for 17.1%, and the United Kingdom for 14.4%. Together, these three markets represented 56.2% of Spain's total export volume.

In 2020, Spain's alcoholic beer export value reached 285.2 million US dollars, reflecting a strong 17.3% increase from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value grew by 38.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 11.4%. The largest decline occurred in 2019, when exports fell by 1.2%, while the most significant increase was in 2018, with a 19.5% rise.

The lowest import volume was recorded in 2019 at 470.5 million liters, which also saw the largest decline of 2.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, France, Belgium, and Portugal were the main suppliers of alcoholic beer to Spain by volume. France contributed 31.7% of imports, Belgium 18.5%, and Portugal 14.2%. Together, these three countries made up 64.5% of Spain's total import volume.
