Turkey’s TMO to Open 2026 Hazelnut Purchases at up to 255 Lira per Kilogram

TMO prepares to begin 2026-crop purchases
Turkey’s Toprak Mahsulleri Ofisi, or TMO, will begin its purchasing campaign for 2026-crop in-shell hazelnuts on Monday, according to Gazete Gerçek. The state agency said it had completed preparations for the campaign and would accept deliveries from registered producers through an appointment-based system.
The program introduces a public-sector outlet for growers as the new crop enters the domestic supply chain. TMO’s terms establish the prices, quality adjustments, intake limits and payment timetable under which farmers can deliver hazelnuts to the agency. The published arrangements do not specify the campaign’s total procurement target, the number of buying points or how long purchases will remain open.
Prices differ by quality and kernel yield
Gazete Gerçek reported that TMO will pay 255 Turkish lira per kilogram for Giresun-quality round hazelnuts with a kernel yield of 50%. The purchase price for Levant-quality hazelnuts with the same stated yield basis will be 250 lira per kilogram. The 5-lira difference preserves a premium for the Giresun category within the state purchasing schedule.
TMO will also apply a yield-based quality adjustment. Producers will receive an additional 5 lira per kilogram for each extra yield point, according to the agency’s announcement cited by Gazete Gerçek. The mechanism means the final amount paid can vary with the usable kernel share of an individual delivery, giving growers a direct financial incentive to supply lots with higher kernel recovery.
The announced figures concern in-shell hazelnuts rather than processed kernels. Quality assessment will therefore be central to the value of deliveries accepted under the campaign. For producers, the combination of a base price and a yield premium provides a reference against which offers from private buyers and processors can be compared.
Acreage quota limits state intake
TMO will cap purchases at 100 kilograms per decare of registered production area. Nurittin Karan, president of the Giresun Chamber of Agriculture, told Gazete Gerçek that the agency would again use a quota in this year’s campaign and that producers could deliver their crop according to the appointment system.
The acreage-based ceiling limits how much of each farm’s output can be sold through the state channel. Growers producing more than 100 kilograms per decare, or holding volumes above their eligible quota, will still need alternative buyers for the balance. The rule may also affect the timing of private-market sales because producers must decide which lots to allocate to TMO and which to offer elsewhere.
Payments due within 21 days
TMO said purchase proceeds would be transferred to producers’ bank accounts within 21 days after delivery. The timetable gives farmers a defined payment window, although it does not provide immediate cash at the buying point. Producers weighing the state offer against private bids will therefore need to consider both the announced price and the cost of waiting for settlement.
The campaign’s market impact will depend on the volume that growers book and successfully deliver under the quota.
