Turkey sets TMO hazelnut purchase prices at 250-255 TL per kilogram for 2026/27
Turkey has set the TMO purchase price for 2026/27 in-shell hazelnuts at 255 TL per kilogram for Giresun quality and 250 TL for levant quality. Purchases will begin on 24 August 2026, with producer appointments opening on 17 August.
State buyer raises prices for both grades
Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has announced the Turkish Grain Board’s purchase prices for in-shell hazelnuts in the 2026/27 season, providing growers with a state-backed benchmark shortly before harvesting begins in the Black Sea region. According to Türkiye Gazetesi, TMO will pay 255 TL per kilogram for Giresun-quality hazelnuts and 250 TL per kilogram for levant-quality hazelnuts.
Both base prices apply to product with a 50% sound-kernel yield. The distinction is commercially significant because the final payment can rise when delivered lots produce a higher proportion of usable kernels. TMO will add 5.10 TL per kilogram for each percentage point above the 50% threshold for Giresun quality. The corresponding premium for levant quality will be 5.00 TL per kilogram.
Premiums preserve the incentive for quality
The new base prices are 55 TL per kilogram above the previous season’s levels for both categories. In 2025/26, TMO offered 200 TL per kilogram for Giresun quality and 195 TL for levant quality, also based on a 50% sound-kernel yield. Its quality premiums were 4 TL and 3.90 TL per kilogram, respectively, for every additional percentage point of yield.
The higher premiums mean that growers delivering better-performing nuts will receive more than the announced headline price. A lot’s kernel yield can therefore materially affect revenue, reinforcing the importance of sorting, drying and post-harvest handling. The 5 TL gap between Giresun and levant base prices remains unchanged from the previous season, while the premium for Giresun quality continues to be slightly higher.
Purchases start on 24 August
TMO said it had completed preparations covering technical infrastructure, storage, staffing and financing for the new purchasing campaign. Intake of in-shell hazelnuts will start on 24 August 2026. Producers will be able to arrange appointments from 17 August through TMO offices, the agency’s online appointment service or Turkey’s e-government platform.
The one-week interval between the opening of appointments and the start of purchases gives growers time to schedule deliveries as the Black Sea harvest approaches. Storage readiness and appointment capacity will be important for the pace at which product moves from farms into the state purchasing system, particularly if many producers seek to sell soon after harvest.
A benchmark for commercial negotiations
The announcement establishes a reference point for negotiations among growers, private buyers, processors and traders. Producers can compare private bids with a state offer of 250-255 TL per kilogram, adjusted for kernel yield, while processors must account for the higher benchmark when planning procurement.
The price decision does not by itself determine how much TMO will buy or how private-market prices will develop. Those outcomes will depend on the volume and quality presented to the agency and on the bids available elsewhere. Nevertheless, the published prices and confirmed intake date give market participants concrete terms for planning sales, storage and processing during the opening phase of the 2026/27 season.
