Turkey’s hazelnut export volume falls 23% as revenue rises 21% in January-July 2026
Turkey exported 123,000 tonnes of hazelnuts worth $1.620007 billion in January-July 2026, according to DKİB data reported by Kuzey Ekspres. Volume fell 23% year on year, while revenue increased 21%, indicating substantially higher export values per tonne.
Lower shipments generate more revenue
Turkey’s hazelnut exports declined sharply by volume but increased in value during the first seven months of 2026, according to data from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association, known as DKİB, reported by Kuzey Ekspres. Exporters shipped 123,000 tonnes between January and July, down 23% from the same period of 2025. Revenue nevertheless rose 21% to $1.620007 billion.
In January-July 2025, Turkey exported 160,000 tonnes and earned $1.334 billion. The latest figures therefore show a decrease of 37,000 tonnes alongside an increase of more than $286 million in foreign-currency receipts. Based on the reported totals, the average export value rose from roughly $8,338 per tonne to about $13,171 per tonne. These calculated averages do not distinguish between product grades, processing levels, contracts or destinations, but they illustrate the scale of the change in unit value.
Turkey sold hazelnuts to 109 countries during the seven-month period. The source did not provide the names or individual volumes of the leading destinations. For confectionery manufacturers, processors and commodity buyers, the combination of lower available export volume and higher unit values points to more expensive procurement from a major producing country.
Trabzon retains its leading position
Trabzon remained Turkey’s largest hazelnut-exporting province. Shipments from the province fell 27%, from 48,880 tonnes in January-July 2025 to 35,803 tonnes in the same period of 2026. Export revenue moved in the opposite direction, rising 31% from $429.934 million to $563.177 million.
Trabzon accounted for 34.76% of Turkey’s total hazelnut exports in the first seven months of 2026, according to DKİB. Based on the reported provincial totals, its average export value increased from approximately $8,795 per tonne to about $15,730 per tonne. The rise was stronger than the increase calculated for Turkey as a whole, although the available data do not explain whether this reflected differences in product mix, quality, processing or sales timing.
Seasonal figures confirm the value increase
DKİB also reported figures for the hazelnut export season, which begins in September. During the first 11 months of the season, Turkey exported 186,617 tonnes and generated $2.401 billion in revenue. Trabzon supplied 43,971 tonnes of that total, worth $661.980 million.
The January-July comparison is the clearest signal for international buyers: fewer Turkish hazelnuts entered export channels, but exporters collected substantially more revenue. The data do not identify the causes of the higher values or provide domestic crop, inventory and price figures. Market participants will therefore need additional information on the coming harvest and available stocks to judge whether the decline in tonnage represents a temporary sales pattern or a tighter supply environment.
