Turkey completes 2026 hazelnut yield survey in Çarşamba ahead of harvest
Officials have completed fieldwork for the 2026 hazelnut yield estimate in Çarşamba, one of Turkey’s major production areas. A commission will assess the orchard data and submit its report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry before the official result is published.
Field counts completed in key production area
Authorities have completed the fieldwork for the 2026 hazelnut yield estimate in the Çarşamba Plain, an important production area in Turkey, ahead of the coming harvest season. Haberler.com reported that the survey was coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and conducted in selected orchards across Çarşamba district.
The counting took place over two days, on July 20-21. Survey teams used scientific methods to record the number of hazelnut clusters on branches and determine the proportion of sound kernels. These observations will provide the underlying data for calculations of the district’s expected 2026 production volume.
No preliminary tonnage or official yield figure was disclosed after the fieldwork. The collected information will first be evaluated and compiled into a report by the relevant commission. That report will then be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, after which the official 2026 hazelnut yield result will be released to the public.
Institutions participate in orchard assessment
The survey brought together representatives of several public and industry bodies. Participants included Selma Cineviz, deputy director of the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry; İsmail Yıldız, director of the Çarşamba District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry; and Muammer Aydemir, president of the Çarşamba Chamber of Agriculture.
Ayşenur Bektaş of the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute and Hümeyra Arı of the Çarşamba Commodity Exchange also joined the work, alongside other institutional personnel. The combination of agricultural authorities, researchers, producer representation and the local commodity exchange gives the commission inputs from both crop monitoring and the commercial side of the sector.
Official figure awaited by producers and the market
Kazım Yılmaz, chairman of the Çarşamba Commodity Exchange, said reliable data were important for both producers and the wider hazelnut industry. He described hazelnuts as one of the region’s most valuable agricultural products, with a strategic role in its economic and social life. According to Yılmaz, yield estimates guide decisions ranging from production planning to exports.
The forthcoming official figure will give growers and market participants a firmer basis for assessing the crop before harvesting begins. Cluster counts and the share of sound kernels are particularly relevant because the visible number of clusters alone does not determine the volume of marketable product. The commission’s calculations must translate the orchard observations into an expected production result.
For producers, the estimate can inform harvest preparation and production planning. For processors, traders and exporters, it will provide an early indication of potential raw-material availability from Çarşamba. However, the completed field survey does not itself establish the final harvested volume: the market must first wait for the commission’s assessment and the Ministry’s official publication.
