Russian perfume production rises 22.9% as local brands expand affordable ranges
Russian perfumery production reached 72.3 million packages in January-July 2026, up 22.9% year on year, Kommersant reported. Perfume output jumped 77.1%, while lower imports helped Russian companies secure more than 71% of the market.
Production reaches 72.3 million packages
Russian perfumery production increased by 22.9% year on year in January-July 2026, reaching 72.3 million packages, according to Kommersant. The strongest expansion came from perfume, whose output rose by 77.1%. Production of eau de toilette fell by 5.6%, while eau de parfum output was almost unchanged.
The composition of this growth indicates a shift in product registration and market positioning rather than a uniform increase across the fragrance industry. Anna Dycheva-Smirnova, a board member of the Russian Perfumery and Cosmetics Association, told Kommersant that local manufacturers are offering a large volume of affordable fragrances registered specifically as perfume. Although perfume traditionally contains a higher concentration of aromatic substances and is treated as a more expensive format, the growing supply of lower-priced local products is changing the category’s average price.
Prices fall in the fastest-growing category
Data from CRPT, the operator of Russia’s Chestny Znak product-labeling system, put the weighted average price for perfume at about 1,000 rubles during the seven-month period. Eau de toilette averaged 1,400 rubles and eau de parfum 3,200 rubles. In July 2026, perfume prices were 17.5% lower than in July 2025, while eau de parfum was 10.3% cheaper. The average price of eau de toilette increased slightly, by 3.6% year on year.
The price movements separate the categories clearly. Perfume combined the largest production increase with the sharpest price decline, consistent with more affordable domestic products entering the market. Eau de toilette followed a different pattern: Russian output contracted, its average price edged higher and it remained the most popular imported fragrance category. Its lower typical concentration of aromatic substances allows established brands to sell scents at a more accessible price, Dycheva-Smirnova said.
Imports decline overall but rebound in July
Russian imports of perfumery products decreased by 10.7% over January-July 2026. Along with the increase in domestic production, this enabled Russian companies to capture more than 71% of the market, Kommersant reported. The cumulative decline did not continue uninterrupted, however: imports rose by 17% year on year in July. Eau de toilette arrivals recorded the strongest increase, climbing 46% to 1.4 million units.
The additional Russian output may reflect greater use of contract manufacturing rather than the emergence of many new factories. Russia has no more than 20 perfume manufacturers with their own production facilities, according to the report. Cosmetics and clothing companies including Mixit, Lime and O’stin began selling perfume in 2026, contributing to production volumes through contract capacity. For manufacturers, retailers and fragrance suppliers, the figures point to stronger competition in affordable perfume, while the July import rebound shows that foreign eau de toilette brands retain demand despite the larger domestic share.
