Russian Livestock and Poultry Output Falls 1.3% in June, Poultry Down 5.8%

Russian agricultural enterprises reduced their combined output of livestock and poultry in June, according to figures published by the state statistics service Rosstat and reported by Interfax. Enterprises produced 1,112,500 tonnes for slaughter in live weight, 1.3% less than in June 2025 and 3.7% below May 2026.

Poultry leads the decline

Poultry accounted for the sharpest drop. Farms raised 526,800 tonnes, down 5.8% from a year earlier and 5.4% from May. Cattle and pig producers moved the other way in annual terms, leaving the overall reduction driven almost entirely by the poultry segment.

Cattle and pigs diverge from May

Against May 2026, only cattle producers held positive momentum, with output up 4%. Poultry farmers cut production 5.4% month on month and pig farmers 3.2%. Over the first half of the year, total enterprise output rose 0.3% year on year: pig raising increased 4.3%, while cattle fell 1.9% and poultry 2.7%, according to Rosstat.

Herds and the half-year balance

Livestock numbers continued to contract. At enterprises, the cattle herd at the end of June was down 0.9% year on year, cows down 1.7%, sheep and goats down 4.2%, pigs down 0.4% and poultry down 1.6%. Across all categories of farm — enterprises, private farmers and household plots — the country produced 7.8 million tonnes of livestock and poultry in the first half of 2026, 0.5% less than a year earlier. Milk output fell 0.9% to 16.7 million tonnes, while egg production rose 1.4% to 24.2 billion. The national herd at the end of June stood at:
