A REAP delegation secured orders for 60,000 tonnes of Pakistani rice during meetings with Chinese buyers in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Chinese buyers order 60,000 tonnes

The Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan has secured orders for 60,000 metric tonnes of Pakistani rice from Chinese buyers following a trade visit to Guangzhou and Shenzhen. ProPakistani and Daily Times reported the volume, citing a REAP statement issued after meetings with importers, distributors and traders in the two southern Chinese commercial centres.

Moneycontrol described the business as orders worth about $400 million and linked the transaction to Pakistan’s effort to increase agricultural export revenue during a period of economic stress. The REAP statements reproduced by ProPakistani and Daily Times, however, specified only the quantity and did not disclose prices, delivery schedules, contract terms or the number of buyers involved. The reported valuation therefore cannot be reconciled with the available association statement.

Basmati and non-basmati varieties promoted

The delegation was led by REAP Senior Vice Chairman Muhammad Jawed Jillani. Its business-to-business meetings presented both premium basmati and non-basmati varieties to major Chinese rice importers, distributors and traders. The discussions also examined opportunities for broader bilateral trade and longer-term commercial partnerships.

According to REAP, Chinese demand reflects confidence in the quality, aroma, competitive pricing and reliability of Pakistani supply. Jillani called the 60,000-tonne order an important result of the association’s work to promote Pakistani rice abroad. He identified China as one of the industry’s most important strategic markets and said continued promotional activity could support higher exports and closer commercial ties.

Former REAP Chairman Rafique Suleman said Pakistani rice had developed a strong reputation among Chinese consumers for its quality, aroma, consistency and value. He argued that regular engagement with overseas buyers and continued trade-promotion work would help Pakistan expand its position in the global rice market.

Execution will determine the commercial impact

The orders give Pakistani millers and exporters a defined volume to supply, but their effect on revenue and margins will depend on details that have not been published. The mix between higher-value basmati and non-basmati rice is particularly relevant, as are shipment timing, quality specifications, payment conditions and logistics costs. Without those terms, the transaction’s average price and profitability cannot be assessed reliably.

For Chinese importers, the deal offers another source of aromatic and mass-market rice through established suppliers. For Pakistan, successful delivery could provide evidence of supply reliability and support repeat purchasing. The immediate milestone is the 60,000-tonne commitment; the wider market consequence will depend on whether the orders become completed shipments and develop into recurring contracts.
