Bakery producers in Russia's Moscow Region turned out more than 482,300 tonnes of bread and bakery products in January–August 2026, 8% more than in the same period a year earlier, the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Food said in a statement reported by riamo.ru. The region kept first place in the country by bread output.

The eight-month volume accounted for more than 33.7% of production in the Central Federal District and 11.7% of the all-Russian total, according to the ministry. The Moscow Region ranks first on both counts. Taken at face value, those shares imply a district volume of roughly 1.43 million tonnes for January–August and a national volume of about 4.12 million tonnes.

Investment through 2028

Regional agriculture and food minister Vitaly Mosin said enterprises are modernising production, widening their product ranges and launching new lines. More than 7 billion rubles of investment is planned to be drawn into the region's baking industry through 2028, according to the ministry.

“This will allow the region to keep strengthening its position on the market,” Mosin said.

The ministry did not break the figure down by project or company, and did not state how much of the planned amount has already been committed. Bread and bakery is a high-turnover category in which capacity additions are normally tied to retail supply contracts rather than to export demand.

Plants behind the volume

The ministry linked the increase in output in part to the stable operation of leading enterprises in the sector:

  • OOO Kolomenskoye Pole
  • OOO Khleb Saburovo
  • ZAO Shchelkovokhleb

The regional assortment covers wheat and rye bread, including Borodinsky, grain and wholegrain products, baguettes, ciabatta, enriched sdoba and artisan baking. Investment projects are expected to raise output further and broaden that range. Fresh bread has a short shelf life, which keeps production close to consumption — an advantage for plants sited around the country's largest urban market.

For upstream players, bakery volumes translate directly into demand for wheat and rye flour, the sector's principal raw materials, since the region runs both wheat and rye bread lines.

Bakery within the regional food complex

Development of Russia's agro-industrial complex is a priority of the national project “Food Security”. Under the programme, agro-industrial technoparks are being opened, plants producing critically important enzyme preparations, food and feed additives and necessary veterinary products are being created and modernised, and enterprises are receiving modern domestically made equipment.

Moscow Region governor Andrei Vorobyov has said the region is the national leader in cheese, confectionery, ice cream, fermented dairy products and meat products.

“Today in the country we are leaders in cheese, confectionery, ice cream, fermented milk products, meat products, bread, ready meals and greenhouse vegetables, and in exports,” Vorobyov said. “In my view that is a very serious argument for us to keep using the methods that support our agricultural business.”
