Milkom Raises Kazan Dairy Plant Capacity to 1,000 Tonnes of Milk a Day
Milkom has completed the modernization of its largest production site, the Kazan Dairy Plant. The upgraded intake section can process up to 1,000 tonnes of milk per day, while new equipment adds 400 tonnes of raw milk intake and 300 tonnes of filling capacity daily.
Kazan plant reaches one-million-litre milestone
Russian dairy producer Milkom has completed the modernization of the Kazan Dairy Plant, its largest production site, according to crispy.news. The company owns brands including Selo Zelyonoe and Molochnaya Rechka. The publication ranks Milkom third in Russian milk sales and fourth in milk processing.
The intake and processing section can now handle up to 1,000 tonnes of milk per day. Milkom said the expansion will allow the plant to increase the share of products sold in different packaging formats in the short term and maintain its processing level at 1 million litres.
The new equipment increased the raw milk intake department’s capacity by 400 tonnes per day. Filling capacity for finished products rose by 300 tonnes per day. These additions give the company room to expand established product lines while introducing new dairy categories at the Kazan site.
New pasteurizer cuts energy and water use
The final stage of the project was completed with Packaging Systems, which supplied and commissioned new processing and packaging equipment. Most modules were designed to individual specifications reflecting the limited space available at the operating plant. This allowed the equipment to be integrated into the existing production system.
The project included an industrial pasteurizer with capacity of 25 tonnes of milk per hour and two packaging lines. Packaging Systems designed and manufactured the pasteurizer.
Fedor Krupnov, a representative of Packaging Systems, said the pasteurizer uses partial homogenization. Only the high-fat fraction, or cream, is processed rather than the entire milk flow. According to Krupnov, this produces a product resistant to separation at substantially lower cost. Energy consumption at this stage has fallen threefold, while water use has been halved.
Milkom broadens its dairy portfolio
Alongside higher output of existing products, the Kazan plant has started producing new liquid and thick dairy and fermented milk products, including functional products. The combination of added intake, processing and filling capacity should allow Milkom to use a larger volume of raw milk and distribute output across more packaging formats.
Mikhail Kamyshny, Milkom’s deputy general director, vice president and managing director, described the one-million milestone in Kazan as the result of work by the company and its partners. Milkom has also engaged Packaging Systems to modernize its Sarapul-Moloko dairy plant in Udmurtia. That project included an upgraded sterilizer and a filling line for 200 ml and 250 ml portion packs. The equipment is intended to increase production of children’s milkshakes, cream with different fat levels and other portioned beverages, including coffee drinks.
