MEGGLE BH becomes first Bosnian dairy producer approved to export to Azerbaijan
MEGGLE BH has become the first company from Bosnia and Herzegovina approved to export milk and dairy products to Azerbaijan. Shipments are expected to begin soon, while the industry works to meet new quality standards and manage domestic milk surpluses and import pressure.
First Bosnian dairy plant gains market access
MEGGLE BH has become the first company from Bosnia and Herzegovina to be included on Azerbaijan’s list of approved facilities for milk and dairy product exports. The approval followed a procedure conducted by the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, according to Bosnian news outlet Bljesak.info.
The company said it expects exports to the Azerbaijani market to begin soon. Neither the planned starting date nor the expected shipment volume and product range was disclosed. The authorization nevertheless gives one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s leading dairy producers access to an additional market and creates a precedent that could support applications by other domestic processors.
Approval follows talks at MEGGLE BH
The development was discussed during an official visit to Bihać by Sanin Tanković, director of the Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and deputy director Slobodan Dojčinović. At MEGGLE BH, they met management board president Jadranka Penava and raw materials department head Vedat Pašić.
Company representatives described the Azerbaijani authorization as a positive result for MEGGLE BH, Bosnian milk producers, the wider dairy industry and the country’s responsible institutions. For farmers and processors, successful entry into Azerbaijan could provide another sales channel at a time when the domestic market is dealing with excess milk supplies. The announcement does not establish whether MEGGLE BH will source additional raw milk or redirect part of its existing production to exports.
Standards remain central to export growth
Participants in the meeting said that increasing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s exports of milk and dairy products would require continuous alignment with new standards. Maintaining the quality of raw milk, modernizing farms and providing professional support to dairy farmers were identified as prerequisites for further development of a sector that the agency already considers to be operating at a high level.
MEGGLE BH also presented current investments in production development, new technologies and employee training. These measures are relevant not only to Azerbaijani market access but also to the company’s ability to retain approval and meet requirements in other potential destinations. Surpluses and imports pressure the domestic industry
The talks also addressed two challenges facing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s dairy sector: market surpluses of milk and strong pressure from imports in the same product category. Opening Azerbaijan offers a possible outlet, but the commercial impact will depend on actual shipment volumes, product positioning and the continuity of orders. For other Bosnian dairy companies, MEGGLE BH’s approval demonstrates that access is possible after regulatory review. Further export growth will depend on whether producers, processors and public institutions can maintain the required standards while building commercially sustainable demand in the new market.
