Export sales reach 600 million won

Geumsil strawberries produced in Gokseong County, South Korea, generated 600 million won in export sales in 2025, establishing the premium fruit as a growing overseas product for the county. The value is equivalent to approximately $450,000 based on the figure provided with the reporting.

NSP News Agency reported that the strawberries are produced by the agricultural corporation Gokseong Melon. According to the county, the fruit has gained steady demand in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, where buyers have recognized its quality competitiveness.

The result gives Gokseong a commercial export channel spanning three Southeast Asian markets. For a county-branded agricultural product, the 2025 sales figure is also evidence that overseas demand has moved beyond individual trial shipments and developed into a repeat business base.

Overseas expansion began in 2023

Gokseong Melon began exporting Geumsil strawberries in 2023. The company has since worked with Gyeongnam Trade to establish what the county describes as a stable export foundation across Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The available reporting does not disclose shipment volumes, prices, buyer names or the division of sales among the three destinations.

The geographic spread is significant for the producer even without those details. Sales in three separate markets reduce dependence on a single destination and provide more than one route for developing relationships with importers and distributors. At the same time, the absence of volume data means the 600 million won result cannot be separated into growth in shipment quantities and changes in unit values.

Gyeongnam Trade’s involvement places an export partner between the producer and the destination markets. Such cooperation gives Gokseong Melon a platform for managing overseas sales while the company concentrates on producing the county’s premium strawberry brand. Neither the county nor the cited report provided information about additional destinations or expansion targets.

A premium regional product gains an overseas market

Gokseong County presents Geumsil strawberries as one of its representative premium agricultural products. Their performance in Southeast Asia shows how a regional brand can build an international sales channel through a focused group of markets rather than a broad launch across many countries.

Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand now form the core overseas market identified in the reporting. Continued demand from these countries will matter to Gokseong’s growers, Gokseong Melon and its trade partner because the export business has been built over a relatively short period since 2023.

The next measure of progress will be whether the company can sustain or increase the 600 million won annual sales base. Shipment volumes, average export prices and destination-level sales would be needed to assess that performance more fully. For now, the disclosed result confirms that Geumsil strawberries have progressed from the start of exports in 2023 to a multi-market Southeast Asian business in 2025.
