The market for wood in the rough in Saint Lucia experienced a gradual shift between 2018 and 2023. Domestic production consistently declined over the period, falling from 6 169 t to 5 747 t. This reduction in local output was initially accompanied by a relatively stable import volume, but imports began to rise noticeably from 2021 onward.

Despite the steady decrease in production, the total market volume showed resilience. After a slight dip to 6 526 t in 2021, the market size recovered and grew, reaching 6 958 t by 2023. This growth was driven primarily by a significant increase in imported wood, which more than doubled from 611 t in 2021 to 1 210 t in 2023, compensating for the declining domestic supply.

Exports played a negligible role throughout the period, leaving the market largely dependent on domestic production and imports. The overall trend points to a growing reliance on imported wood in the rough to meet local demand as domestic production capacity diminished.
