From 2018 to 2021, the Egyptian wood in the rough market showed relative stability, with market volume fluctuating around 11,900–11,970 thousand tons. Domestic production grew slowly by approximately 0.1% annually, partly supported by government facilities for importing raw materials and equipment, which helped lower production costs in an industry reliant on imported inputs.

In 2022, market volume declined by 0.9% to 11,866 thousand tons, coinciding with a sharp drop in imports to 18 thousand tons. The market recovered in 2023, expanding by 2.8% to 12,196 thousand tons—the highest level in the period. This growth was driven by a rebound in imports to 326 thousand tons, following Egypt's accession to the BRICS group in 2023. As Russia, a key wood supplier, is a BRICS member, the move opened prospects for imports in local currency, improving procurement conditions for Egyptian importers.
