The market for wood in the rough in Albania experienced considerable volatility from 2018 to 2023. Starting at 598 thousand tonnes, market volume grew slightly to 612 thousand tonnes in 2019 before contracting to 586 thousand tonnes in 2020. A strong expansion followed, with consumption jumping by 17% to 686 thousand tonnes in 2021, the highest level in the period.
This peak was short-lived, as the market volume fell sharply by 23% to 530 thousand tonnes in 2022, a year which saw imports drop to zero. A partial recovery occurred in 2023, with the market growing to 560 thousand tonnes, supported by a rise in domestic production to 535 thousand tonnes and the return of imports, which reached 24 thousand tonnes.
