In 2020, Executive Decree PCM‑048‑2017 established new rules for fuel stations and deposits, including biofuels, which introduced specific standards affecting the distribution channels for wood‑based energy.

A slight rebound to 8 179 thousand m³ occurred in 2021, supported by the forestry sector’s output of roundwood and the activity of timber companies with export experience, ensuring a steady supply of wood for fuel. However, the market contracted to 8 062 thousand m³ in 2022, primarily due to government subsidies and price freezes for fossil fuels that made wood fuel less competitive, coupled with bark‑beetle outbreaks that reduced the availability of pine wood for fuel.

By 2023 the market stabilized at 8 013 thousand m³, showing only a marginal decrease from the previous year.
