From 2018 to 2024, the Croatian winding wire market expanded substantially, with physical volume growing from 5 670 t to 8 691 t, an increase of 53%. This growth was primarily fueled by a steady rise in imports, which more than offset modest domestic production and declining exports.

The most pronounced surge occurred in 2021, when market volume jumped by 18% in physical terms and 36% in value, reaching 7 668 t and $70.6 million respectively. This spike coincided with a significant increase in import volumes and values. Growth continued through 2024, albeit at a more moderate pace, with the market value nearly doubling over the full period to $95.3 million.

Domestic production showed some volatility but ended the period slightly higher, while exports steadily declined, further concentrating supply on the domestic market. The divergence between physical and value growth indicates potential shifts in product mix or price changes in the later years.

Croatia's winding wire production has increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, 1 538 tonnes of winding wire were produced, marking a robust advance of 11.6% compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production increased by 28.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.7%.

Winding wire exports from Croatia declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, Croatia exported 269 tonnes of winding wire, marking a drop of 12.3% compared to the previous year. The largest decline occurred in 2019, at 12.9%, while the largest increase was recorded in 2018, at 29.3%. The peak export volume was in 2018, reaching 352 tonnes.

From 2017 to 2020, the main buyers of winding wire from Croatia were Serbia, Italy, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Serbia accounted for 55.3% of exports in kind, Italy for 20.5%, and Bosnia and Herzegovina for 11.2%. Together, these three countries comprised 87.1% of total exports in kind.

In 2020, exports amounted to 1 931 thousand US dollars, marking a strong loss of 14.4% from a year earlier. The largest decline was recorded in 2019, at 15.6%, while the largest increase occurred in 2018, at 40.6%. The maximum export value was in 2018, reaching 2 675 thousand US dollars.
