Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, the market volume for welded steel line pipe in Denmark contracted from 24 279 tons to 20 702 tons. This decline was primarily driven by reduced domestic oil and gas activity, notably the multi-year renovation of the Tyra oil field, which lowered demand for new pipeline materials. During this period, regulatory developments such as the new safety rules for gas installations (BEK no. 247) came into effect, setting quality benchmarks for the industry.

A strong recovery followed from 2021, with market volume jumping to 28 115 tons and then surging to 42 959 tons in 2022. This expansion was directly fueled by the commissioning of two major state-backed infrastructure projects: the Baltic Pipe, which turned Denmark into a gas transit route to Poland, and the Lolland-Falster gas pipeline. These projects created substantial demand for welded steel pipes. The entry into force of the Pipeline Owner Register (LER law) in 2021 also formalized market oversight, supporting this growth phase.

After the 2022 peak, market volume stabilized at 43 502 tons in 2023 before adjusting to 29 501 tons in 2024. The completion of the large pipeline projects reduced new construction demand. The market continued to adapt to updated technical standards and certification requirements for welding and building regulations, influencing production specifications.
