However, in 2020, the extension of access to Newcastle disease vaccines for hobby poultry keepers boosted consumption, even as supply bottlenecks emerged due to the temporary repurposing of production facilities for human COVID-19 vaccines.

From 2021 to 2023, the market resumed growth, supported by clearer vaccination guidelines and new product introductions. The publication of the small animal vaccination guideline in early 2022 standardized immunization practices and increased demand for compliant vaccines. In 2022, the launch of new monovalent inactivated vaccines for ruminants, developed in response to the 2018 Bluetongue outbreak, expanded the product portfolio. The market expansion continued in 2023, fueled by the EU positive opinion for the Nobilis-Multriva combination vaccine and the tightening of antibiotic use reporting rules, which encouraged prophylactic vaccination.

In 2024, the market size fell sharply to 112.9 million US dollars. Persistent supply shortages, as many production lines remained converted for COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing, coincided with the full implementation of the updated TAMG, which imposed new labeling, leaflet, and qualified-person requirements on manufacturers and distributors.

Between 2017 and 2020, the Netherlands, Turkey, and France were the top buyers of veterinary vaccines from Germany in volume terms, accounting for 32.3%, 16.0%, and 7.7% of exports, respectively. Together, these three countries represented 55.9% of Germany's total exports in kind.

Germany's exports of veterinary vaccines in value terms have risen for the third year in a row. In 2020, exports totaled 188.5 million US dollars, which is 2.2% higher than the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 26.9%, with an average annual growth rate of 8.3%.

The highest volume was recorded in 2019 at 811.0 tonnes, while the largest increase occurred in 2018, with a rise of 21.2%.
