Earlier Report Observations

Following a contraction in 2019, the German vacuum pump market rebounded in 2020 with a 24% increase to USD 262 million. This recovery was propelled by heightened demand for vacuum pumps in medical and pharmaceutical applications during the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside their growing use in food packaging to extend shelf life.

Market growth continued in 2021, rising 29% to USD 337 million, driven by increasing automation in manufacturing where vacuum pumps play a key role and the development of electric vacuum pumps for the automotive sector to support electromobility. In 2022, market volume dipped slightly by 5% to USD 320 million, even as new energy-efficient pumps such as Atlas Copco's GHS VSD+ series were launched and exclusive licensing agreements for automotive brake systems were concluded.

A strong 29% surge to USD 414 million occurred in 2023, fueled by sustained demand from the semiconductor and food industries, along with advancing digitalization and smart monitoring systems. Global supply chain constraints and raw material shortages, however, placed pressure on production. The market then fell sharply by 29% to USD 293 million in 2024, despite growth in solar module production capacity and the expanding market for electric vacuum pumps in vehicles.
