In 2022, the market volume stabilized near 259 tons, partly supported by lower local tobacco prices compared to mainland France due to less stringent taxation, which helped maintain consumption. This dynamic shifted sharply in April 2023 when price deregulation removed maximum margins for importers and retailers, triggering a 20-30% increase in retail prices for some brands. The consequent reduction in demand drove the market volume down to 251 tons by the end of the year.

Polynesia's production of unmanufactured tobacco and refuse has increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 255.0 t, marking a 1.1% rise compared to the previous year. Production reached its lowest point in 2018 at 246.4 t, which also saw the largest decline of 3.6%. The most significant increase occurred in 2019, with production growing by 2.3%.
