Earlier Report Observations
Between 2018 and 2021, the German truck crane market grew from 787 million dollars to 938 million dollars, peaking at 942 million dollars in 2020. This expansion was supported by rising infrastructure investments across the region, which sustained demand for mobile cranes. Market innovation also played a role, exemplified by Manitowoc's launch of new crane models at the Bauma 2019 trade fair. Major manufacturer Liebherr strengthened its market position and, from September 2021, began delivering all cranes from its Ehingen plant using hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) to reduce carbon emissions.
After a contraction to 789 million dollars in 2022, the market rebounded sharply to 1 027 million dollars in 2023 and further to 1 253 million dollars in 2024. The 2023 surge was partly triggered by the August 2023 introduction of the second-generation intelligent tachograph, which prompted accelerated vehicle registrations. Continued regulatory push and subsidies for low-emission commercial vehicles, such as the federal funding program for climate-friendly trucks (KsNI), fueled further growth in 2024 by encouraging adoption of greener equipment.
