The market for travel bags, rucksacks and similar containers in Germany, measured in value, showed initial growth from $722 million in 2018 to $775 million in 2019. It then entered a downward phase, declining to $696 million in 2020 and further to $673 million in 2021.

A sharp rebound occurred in 2022, with the market size jumping to $929 million. By 2024, however, the market contracted to $609 million. Exports travel bags, rucksacks and similar containers from Germany

After two years of growth, Germany's exports of travel bags, rucksacks, and similar containers declined. In 2020, exports totaled 39.8 thousand tonnes, a significant drop of 13.2% from the previous year. The peak was in 2019 at 45.8 thousand tonnes, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 with a 9.1% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany's export market for travel bags, rucksacks, and similar containers was highly diversified. France, Austria, and Poland were the top destinations, accounting for 12.6%, 11.4%, and 11.3% of exports in kind, respectively, but together they made up only 35.2% of total flows. The remaining 64.8% was distributed among numerous other countries.

Following two years of growth, Germany's exports of travel bags, rucksacks, and similar containers in value terms fell. In 2020, exports stood at 851 million US dollars, down 7.6% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports increased by 10.8%, with an average annual growth rate of 3.5%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 921 million US dollars, and the largest increase was in 2018 with a 13.3% rise.

Between 2017 and 2020, Switzerland, France, and Austria were among Germany's largest buyers of travel bags, rucksacks, and similar containers in value terms, with shares of 11.9%, 10.5%, and 10.3%, respectively. After two years of increase, Germany's imports of travel bags, rucksacks, and similar containers in kind declined. In 2020, import volume totaled 107.1 thousand tonnes, a decrease of 12.3% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports fell by 7.8%, with an average annual decline of 2.7%. The peak was in 2019 at 122.1 thousand tonnes, and the largest increase occurred in 2019 with a 3.7% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, China, Vietnam, and India dominated Germany's imports of travel bags, rucksacks, and similar containers in kind. China accounted for 56.8% of imports, Vietnam for 22.9%, and India for 6.6%, together making up 86.2% of total flows.
